Common Questions about Flooring Maintenance

Have questions about our flooring services? We're here to help you find the answers.

Regular sweeping or vacuuming should be done daily or every few days to remove dirt and debris. A damp (not wet) mop with a suitable cleaner can be used weekly or as needed.

No, steam mops can cause moisture damage, leading to warping, swelling, or peeling. Always use a dry or slightly damp mop instead.

For timber, use a damp cloth with a mild wood cleaner. For laminate, a mix of vinegar and warm water can help with stubborn stains. Avoid abrasive cleaners and excessive moisture.

Use furniture pads under chairs and tables is a great idea. If you have pets try to keep their nails trimmed. And avoid walking on the floor with high heels or heavy shoes. Placing rugs in high-traffic areas also helps, and is an opportunity to add more of your style to the room.

Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, and ammonia-based cleaners, as they can damage the finish. Always use a PH-neutral cleaner specifically designed for timber or laminate flooring.

Wipe up spills as soon as possible with a dry cloth to prevent water from seeping into the seams. Prolonged exposure to moisture can cause swelling or warping.

Use a wood floor polish or refresher designed for your floor’s finish. Avoid wax-based products unless recommended by the manufacturer.

If your floors are particularly worn then it may be time to contact us for a spruce up!

No, laminate flooring cannot be sanded or refinished. If it becomes damaged, you may need to contact us about replacing some individual planks.

Timber naturally expands and contracts with humidity changes. If gaps appear, a humidifier in winter or a dehumidifier in summer can help maintain stable conditions.

With regular maintenance, solid timber floors can last over 50 years, while engineered timber can last 20-30 years. Laminate flooring typically lasts 15-25 years, depending on quality and care.
